Moirang, June 09 2026:
A mass protest rally will be organised in Bishnupur district on June 15 to demand restoration of peace, justice for victims of violence and greater accountability from the Government over the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
The announcement was made by social activist Moirangthem Rajen during a press conference held at the office of the Bishnupur Apunba Lup (BALL) on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various clubs, civil society organisations, Meira Paibi groups and other community-based organisations of the district.
Rajen said the rally is being organised under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) in view of the prolonged unrest in the State since the outbreak of ethnic violence on May 3, 2023.He expressed concern over the continued displacement of people, loss of lives, restrictions on free movement along national highways and the insecurity faced by many residents.
He alleged that several issues raised by COCOMI, including its seven-point questionnaire submitted to the Government, remain unanswered.
He also voiced dissatisfaction over the lack of progress in securing justice for victims of the bomb attack at Tronglaobi and other incidents linked to the conflict.
According to Rajen, a memorandum highlighting the concerns of the people and urging the Government to take responsibility for the prevailing situation in the State will be submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah through the Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur and the six MLAs of the district.
The rally is scheduled to commence at 11 am from SLO Ground along Ngaikhong Road.
Rajen appealed to the six MLAs of Bishnupur district, civil society organisations and the general public to participate in large numbers and make the programme a success.
