State Badminton: IWDBA, BDBA win team titles

Imphal, July 24 2023:
Imphal West District Badminton Association (IWDBA) and Bishnupur District Badminton Association (BDBA) on Monday emerged as women's and men's team champions of the 40th Inter District Badminton Championships 2023 .
In the final held at Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) Indoor Stadium, DMU campus, IWDBA defeated Imphal East District Badminton Association (IEDBA) by 3-2 sets in the Women's Team Event.
Kshetrimayum Maheshwari (IEDBA) breezed past Leonie Tayenjam (IWDBA) 21-10, 21-9 in the first singles match before IWDBA levelled the score in the second singles with Vilinda Huidrom (IWDBA) defeating Konsam Gunjan Devi (IEDBA) 21-19, 21-18 .
Ksh Maheshwari & Moirangthem Priya Devi (IEDBA) again put their team ahead by defeating Chirom Bellarix Devi & Sananu Maisnam (IWDBA) 21-9, 21-16 in the first doubles match.
IWDBA clinched the championship title as Angita Naorem (IWDBA) beat M Priya (IEDBA) 21-15, 21-14 in third singles and teamed up with Leonie Tayenjam in second doubles match to defeat K Gunjan & Lourembam Sheetal (IEDBA) 21-11, 21-8 .
In Men's Team Event, BDBA overcame IWDBA at 3-2 sets.
In the first singles, Rana Kumar Boruah (IWDBA) beat Oinam Aimson Singh (BDBA) 21-9, 21-18, but the score were tied after Hemam Malemnganba Singh (BDBA) defeated Chingangbam Ritesh Singh 21-16, 21-14 .
In first doubles match, Khwairakpam Manjit Singh & Konthoujam Dingku Singh (BDBA) edged past Ch Ritesh & Khoirom Punsiba (IWDBA) 21-19,21-14 before Bidyasagar Salam (IWDBA) breezed past K Dingku 21-9,21-12 in the third singles to stretch the summit clash to the fifth and deciding match.
In the closely fought decider, Haobijam Rohenkumar Singh & Rajkumar Alen Singh (BDBA) overcame RK Ronald & Vikson Singh Chirom (IWDBA) 21-19, 21-18 to settle tne triumph.
Meanwhile, in the 67th State Open Badminton Championships 2023 also at MBA Indoor Stadium, L Kalo Truman (SDBA); Martin Ingudam (BDBA); Ch Bose Singh, S Shyamchandra Singh, L Nongdamba Khuman & L Luwangamba all of IWDBA; Sushanta M .
In the pre-quarter finals played on Monday, top seed L Kalo Truman defeated L Danish (TDBA) 21-16, 21-14, seventh seeded Ch Bose beat Ahenba Kh (IWDBA) 21-14, 21-14, third seeded Martin Ingudam breezed past Pouthanglung Golmei (IEDBA) 21-6, 21-9, fifth seeded S Shyamchandra dominated Kh Boyai Meitei (IWDBA) 21-3, 21-8, L Nongdamba defeated Shriyan L (IEDBA) 21-18, 18-21, 21-9, Sushanta M defeated fourth seeded Neelachal Ph (IWDBA) 21-13, 21-15, sixth seeded S Pinibash toiled past Yaiphaba L 21-15,19-21, 21-19 and second seeded L Luwangamba overcame M Rustam Singh (IEDBA) 21-15, 21-16 .
In U-15 girls R-16 match, Chanulembl Sapam (IWDBA) beat Rekispa Soubam (TDBA) 21-12, 21-8 to enter quarterfinals.
In Tuesday's quarterfinal matches, S Pinibash will face L Luwangamba and L Kalo Truman will take on Ch Bose, while in U-15 girls' event top seeded Leonie Tayenjam (IWDBA) will face off against Rajkumari Irina (IEDBA) .
In boys doubles quarterfinal matches (U-15) scheduled on Tuesday, Kh Boyai Meitei & Rivash Thangjam (IWDBA/IEDBA) will play Ahenba Kh & M Suraj Singh (IWDBA) and 0 Charles Babbage Singh & Samson Salam (BDBA) against Kh Premchandra Singh & Mahesh Laishram (TDBA) .
In mixed doubles (U-15), top seed pair of M Suraj & Ch Bellarix Devi (IWDBA) will take on their district teammate S Shyamchandra & Chanulembi Sapam, L Nongdamba & L Anjelia Devi (IWDBA) will face off against O Charles Babbage & Dolly RK (BDBA) and Pouthanlung Golmei & RK Irina (IEDBA) will play L Luwangamba & Jianna L (IWDBA) , while in mixed doubles top seed O Aimson Singh & Somibala (BDBA/KDBA) will face N Siamond Kumar & L Diana Devi (IWDBA) .
