40th Inter District Badminton Championships : Bishnupur district win men's title, Imphal West emerge women's champs

Bishnupur district and Imphal West district were crowned champions of the men's team and women's team events in the 40th Inter District Badminton Championships held in line with the 67th State Open Badminton Championships at Manipur Badminton Association Indoor Hall in DMU campus.
The Bishnupur district men's team defeated Imphal West team 3-2 to seal the top honour today.
Imphal West had the 1-0 lead with Rana Kumar Boruah notching up a 21-9, 21-18 win over Oinam Aimson of Bishnupur district in the first men's singles match but Bishnupur's Hemam Malemnganba drew level by beating Chingangbam Ritest 21-16, 21-14 before the men's doubles pair of Khwairakpam Manjit Singh and Kongthoujam Dingku overturned the lead with a 21-19, 21-14 win over Imphal West's pair of Ch Ritesh and Khoirom Punshiba.
Imphal West rallied back to level the competition 2-2 with Bidyasagar Salam easing to a 21-9, 21-12 win over Konthoujam Dingku in the other men's singles round but the men's pair of Haobijam Rohenkumar and Rajkumar Alen handed Bishnupur district the 3-2 victory by sealing a 21-19, 21-18 win over Imphal West's RK Ronald and Vikson Chirom.
The women's team championship clash was also a thriller with both the Imphal East and Imphal West girls fighting till the last game but the Imphal West emerged victorious 3-2 with Angita Naorem and Leonie Tayenjam pulling off a comfortable 21-11, 21-8 win over Konsam Gunjan and Lourembam Sheetal in the deciding doubles match.
Imphal East went up 1-0 when Ksh Maheshwari clinched an easy 21-10, 21-9 win over Leonie Tayenjam in the opening women's singles match.
Imphal West however came back into the competition with Vilinda Huidrom securing a hardfought 21-19, 21-18 win over Konsam Gunjan of Imphal East.
In the following doubles match, Ksh Maheshwari and Moirangthem Priya combined well to outshine Chirom Bellarix and Sananu Maisnam 21-19, 21-16 and helped regain Imphal East the lead but Angita Naorem helped Imphal West draw level by beating Moirangthem Priya 21-15, 21-14 in the fourth match (singles) and extended the competition to fifth and deciding match.
The quarter final line up of the U-15 boys singles competition in the 67th State Open Badminton Championships was completed today.
L Kalo Truman of Senapati who outlasted L Danish of Thoubal 21-16, 21-14 in the pre-quarter final today will face Ch Bose of Imphal West down got the better of Ahenba Kh of Imphal West 21-14, 21-14 in the second pre-quarter final match, in the first quarter final match tomorrow.
Playing in the second quarter final match are Martin Ingudam of Bishnupur district and S Shyamchandra of Imphal West.
Martin reached the last-8 round with an easy 21-6, 21-9 win over Pouthanlung Golmei of Imphal East before Shyamchandra prevailed 21-3, 21-8 past Kh Boyai of Imphal West.
L Nongdamba Khuman of Imphal West and Sushanta M of Kakching district will play in the third quarter final match.
Nongdamba edged out Shriyan L of Imphal East 21-18, 18-21, 21-9 in the round of 16 encounter while Sushanta eased to a 21-13, 21-15 win over Neelachal Ph of Imphal West.
S Pinibash of Thoubal on the other hand will play L Luwangamba of Imphal West in the third quarter final match.
Pinibash overcame Yaiphaba L of Imphal West 21-15, 19-21, 21-19 in a competitive pre-quarter final clash while Luwangamba shrugged off M Rustum 21-15, 21-16 .
