Open TT Tourney : Stage set for men's singles semi-finals

Imphal, August 18 2023: The semi-final line up of the men's singles competition of the Open Prize Money Table Tennis Tournament organised under the aegis of Manipur Table Tennis Association was completed today.

56 male and 20 female players from across the State are competing for top honours in the men's singles, women's singles, U-13 mixed doubles, above 40 years men's doubles and U-40 years men's doubles competitions in the tournament which kicked off today at DM University campus.

The opening day of the tournament saw Soram Jay reaching the men's singles semi-final with a 11-6, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5 win over Bikash Aheibam in the quarter final.

Earlier Jay defeated Brojen 11-9, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6 in the pre-quarter final match.

The second player to reach the same stage was Akshay Kumar who outlasted Oinam Parish 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 in the pre-quarter final before knocking out Ojesh Thokchom 11-7, 11-8, 11-2 in a quarter final match.

Dhamendra, in the meantime secured a 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 win over Kiyam Ronald in the pre-quarter final and earned a semi-final ticket with a 11-3, 11-3, 11-2, 11-6 win over Ksh Nelson in the quarters.

Sidharth Naorem, meanwhile sealed a 9-11, 10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 win over Ningthoujam Coleman in the last-16 stage before overcoming Th Deepak 12-10, 13-11, 11-5, 11-9 in the quarter final match to seal the last-4 round.
