600 Trucks stranded due to landslides along NH-37 road

Imphal, August 18 2023:
At least 600 trucks including oil tankers bound for Imphal are still stranded at Jiribam due to landslides at five different locations along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) road since the past few days and road restoration work could take at least two more days so that heavy commercial trucks could resume movement.
As per sources, incessant rain since the past few days caused landslides at several places along NH-37 road particularly between Irang and Awangkhul Part 2, and Irang and Khongsang with the worse affected part in Awangkhul area.
However, hectic road restoration work is being initiated by NHIDCL with utilisation of all their available machineries.
An official of NHIDCL said that the landslide at Awangkhul remains dangerous and it would take at least two more days to connect the road.
Meanwhile, more than 600 loaded trucks coming from Assam remain stranded at Jiribam since the past few days due to landlides.
The stranded trucks include 22 petrol tankers, 145 LPG bullet tankers, one Kerosene tanker, seven aviation fuel tankers and 35 diesel tankers.
On the other hand, an official of CAF & PD informed that landslides along NH-37 road halt transportation of goods for some days but there is nothing to worry for shortage at the moment and traffic along the key highway would resume soon.
