Imphal, August 18 2023:
In a memorandum submitted to the President, PMO.
MHA and National Commission for Minorities, the United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC) has appealed for immediate action to halt the escalating war-like situation that has gripped the state.
In the memorandum, UMPC expressed deep concern and distress over the turmoil that has persisted in the state for over 100 days.
The state has witnessed a distressing breakdown of law and order, prompting the committee to make a sincere plea for prompt resolution and restoration of normalcy, it stated.
The memorandum outlines the gravity of the situation, emphasising that the state has witnessed a complete disruption of peace and stability.
Despite the efforts of responsible citizens and community members, the dire conditions faced by the people, especially women and children, have hindered effective resolution.
The committee acknowledges their continuous efforts but stresses the need for substantial intervention given the extent of devastation.
The Meitei-Pangal community, an integral indigenous group with over 400 years of history in Manipur, has been particularly affected by the ongoing crisis.
The committee expressed dismay over the inability to reconcile the turmoil and criticised the lack of significant action from the Central Government and its agencies.
UMPC suspects that the mainland is exploiting the situation, potentially following a divide-and-rule strategy to undermine the unity and sanctity of Manipur.
In their urgent appeal, UMPC calls upon the President of India, PMO, MHA, and National Commission for Minorities to swiftly intervene and restore peace, integrity, and harmony in the state.
The committee underscores its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Manipur and requests that the authorities hold those accountable for the devastation that has spanned over 100 days.
UMPC believes that the support and intervention of the Central government will create an environment conducive to resolving the crisis and ensuring the well-being of the people of Manipur.
