Imphal, August 18 2023:
While Apunba Chingmeirong had previously warned against any work being carried out in Kuki areas of Chingmeirong until the on-going conflict is resolved, two individuals were found violating the cautionary warning.
As such, they will be solely responsible for any consequences from the same, the body cautioned.
Addressing a press meet held at Chingmeirong Maning Leikai Sinam Shyama Devi Town Hall on Friday, Apunba Chingmeirong spokesperson Maheshwar Takhellambam recalled that the body had made an announcement on July 16 with the knowledge of the people of the state, that no property or land of Kukis in Chingmeirong would be put up for sale.
However, on July 17, two individuals namely, Maibam Nabakumar and Maibam Jiten of Khurai Thoudam Leikai claimed ownership on a shopping complex (Vishal, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank) in Chingmeirong, owned by T Phalhoikim Haokip w/o TN Haokip, and renamed it to Emoinu Complex, he informed.
Iterating the body's previous warning against any sale or purchase of properties belonging to Kukis in Chingmeriong until there is a definite solution to the on-going conflict and the displaced Meitei populace are allowed to return to their homes, Maheshwar said that the two individuals have been acting arrogantly and interfering repeatedly.
However, it has been known that the original renters of the complex had just recently paid the rent to T Phalhoikim Haokip.
Questioning how the two individuals became owners of a property which is in the name of a Kuki, Maheshwar further questioned why the two alleged owners did not come forward when the shopping complex was vandalised by a mob on May 4.He asked if there were traitors amidst the people.
Stating that the people involved with the Shopping complex (Emoinu Complex) in Chingmeirong will be considered to be against the Meitei society and the people of the state, the spokesperson cautioned that the individuals would be solely responsible for any unwanted consequences befalling them.
Regarding rumours being circulated of those in power trying to sell off of purchase properties, he said that if the rumours are true, all of these should be halted immediately.
He then urged the central and state governments to help solve the unstable situation in the state at the earliest.
