UCM appeals against disrupting activities of farmers

United Committee Manipur (UCM), Moirang branch has urged the indigenous hill people who have been living harmoniously for a long period of time in Thangjing hill not to disrupt the farming activities done by the valley people.
In a release, UCM Moirang branch president L Manglem Singh said that Moirang constituency has been worst affected by the present conflict.
Farmers are now unable to cultivate paddy due to fear of attacks.
When the unit inspected several areas, they found that some farmers are facing scarcity of fertilisers also, he continued.
While urging state government and departments concerned to provide proper irrigation facilities and fertilisers to the farmers, he exhorted not to disrupt the farmers in farming activities.
He also urged the elders and local populace of Thangjing hill to remember the harmonious relationship between hills and valley and work for protecting the healthy relationship among the indigenous people.
Pointing out that there were spaces for hill people, Pangal and Meetei in Moirang Bazar, he said that the hill people are not to be found in the market since the conflict broke out.
He further appealed to discard the idea of restricting Meeteis to visit hill areas and hill people to come down to the valley.
The elders and educated people of the hill should recollect the history of the land and discuss how Manipur was formed.
The people living in Thangjing hill are well aware of the history of Moirang.
Moreover, the world has accepted that the shrine of Ibudhou Thangjing was in the hill, he continued.
