Imphal, December 17 2010:
Whereas the State is facing acute shortage of power, around 400 Kw of power generated by a hydro-electric power project at Genel in Tamenglong district remains unused.
The power project at Genel was taken up by MANIREDA.
The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram has already informed the State power department that Government of Manipur may purchase electricity generated by the Genel project.
Though the project became operational since September this year, no wires were put up for transmission of electricity.
As such, power generated by the hydro-electric project remained unused all this time.
Subsequently, the commission sent a written intimation to the Chief Engineer of Power Department that the Government of Manipur may purchase power generated by the project and the same may be distributed to the people of Manipur.
