Imphal, December 17 2010:
After Assam Rifles Soccer Team, Lajong Football Club, Shillong became the second outstation team to advance into the semifinals of the 54th CC Meet Football Tournament.
The Shillong team staved off a spirited challenge from former champion MPSC to record a 2-1 victory in the second quarter final match played today at Mapal Kangjeibung.
Anil Gurung opened the Lajong score from a James Gbilee aerial pass in the 24th minute with the same scorer adding the second in the 39th minute from a Zenith Mashangva cross.
Gbilee was sent off in the 68th minute after second bookable offence in the match.
Even though the police side had a slight upperhand against the 10-man Lajong and managed to pull back one in the 83rd minute through N Deshkumar, Lajong preserved its lead to seal the four berth.
The Lajong bar also prevented MPSC from restoring parity at the fag end of the match as Deshkumar's powerful shot rebounded off the crosspiece.
Meanwhile, AMFA release has informed that remaining matches of the tournament with effect from December 17 will be played at Khuman Lampak Main stadium.
