Imphal, December 17 2010:
The Support Group on Removal of PAP today launched its signature campaign for removal of the Protected Area Permit from Manipur, with objective of development of tourism in the state.
The group will also hold a motorcycle rally on December 19.The rally will start from the western gate of Kangla and will travel in Imphal East and Imphal West areas.
The support group was formed today with an aim to press the government to remove PAP from the state which will allow the Manipuris living abroad and foreign nationals to visit the state freely.
As soon as it was formed today, the group initiated its signature campaign.
Signing the campaign, IFCD Minister, Biren said that the state government had decided to press the Union government to remove PAP from the state.
Tourism Minister, TN Haokip also signed the campaign today.
Tourism Commissioner, KK Chhetry also signed the campaign expressing his desire to lift up the restriction from the state in order to develop tourism.
Manipuris residing in Canada and England will be participating in the motorcycle rally which is to be held on December 19 in Imphal East and Imphal West area.
It is the first phase of the campaign.
Later, signature campaign and rally will also be held in other districts of the state.
RK Shivachandra was appointed as convener of the local support group on removal of PAP.
Ratan Luwangcha, Sapam Gita and Kangjam Muhindro were the Co-conveners.
The signature campaign of the support group will also be done through the internet.
The group appealed the people of the state to participate in the signature campaign to remove PAP from the state.
