In a keenly contested match, FC Lajong, Shillong beat Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) 2-1 in today's quarter final match to enter the semi final rounds of the ongoing 54th CC Meet organized by the All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) under the sponsorship of Manipur State Aids Control Society (MACS) at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
Assam Rifles team had also entered into the semi final yesterday after defeating AIM by a solitary goal.
FC Lajong and Assam Rifles will fight in the first semi final match for the CC Meet title.
State born players, Boithang Haokip and M Subhash will be arriving here to play the semi final match against Assam Rifles.
Thousands of football fans of the state flock to the stadium to witness the quarter final match played between FC Lajong and MPSC.
Spectators' attention was lock on Liberia player James Giblee of FC Lajong.
But he was sent off in the 69th minute of the match after he hit Ksh Kanta of MPSC with his elbow.
The conducting referee booked him a red card and send off from the match.
According to FC Lajong coach Birendra Thapa MPSC players played the match very skillfully.
When his key player James Giblee was sent off from the match, his team faced a big pressure against them.
But they coped up with the mounting pressure and win the match.
The playfield of Mapal Kangjeibung is hard and his team faced some difficulties with the ground.
But it will be better in the semi finals since the semi final matches will be played at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
MPSC coach Md Tayeb Ali said that the decision of the conducting referee is a little unjust.
But he admitted that FC Lajong team is a good team.
The two goals of FC Lajong were scored by its key player Anil Gurung.
The first goal was scored in the 24th minute of the match from a pass of James Giblee.
The second goal was scored from a pass by Zenik Mashangva in the 39th minute of the match.
On the other hand, the lone goal of MPSC was scored by Deshkumar in the 83rd minute of the match.
MPSC players found it difficult to face the strong physique and tall players of FC Lajong.
The first half of the match was dominated by FC Lajong.
But in the second half, MPSC players played the match very competitively taking advantage of the absent of James Giblee and the substitution of Anil Gurung.
The third quarter final match will be played between KSC,Lambulane and SSB tomorrow at 1.30 pm.
