The Health Insurance Scheme for Weavers which gives reimbursement facility upto Rs 15,000 to the weavers in case of hospitalized treatment, has been implemented in the state, said Th Arunkumar, General Manager, DIC, Imphal East in a training programme for weavers held at Chanam Sandrok today.
The seven day training programme to develop skills and design in the field of weaving was organized by the Keirao Bitra Loumi Lup and Progessive Farmers' Inteligence Group under the aegis of Directorate of Commerce and Industries.
Social Worker, N Itomba graced the function as chief guest.
Keisham Maimu a local elder person was the president of the function.
Th Arunkumar attended as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Arunkumar said that the health insurance scheme of weavers was implemented in the state with ICICI and MOBARD.
It gives reimbursement facility of upto Rs 15,000 to a registered weaver in case of hospitalized treatment.
The facility will be given to the registered weavers, their husbands and their two sons.
A weaver needs to pay Rs 50 a year as registration fee to avail benefits under the scheme.
The actual registration fee is Rs 180, but the state government will bear Rs 130 from its side.
He said that the government is taking up many initiatives for the welfare of the weavers.
Around 10 handloom clusters with 500 members each have been constructed in Imphal East.
Government is funding the self help groups of 15 members each of the handloom clusters.
Needy weavers are provided with looms, halls and yearn under the scheme.
Amount from Rs 50 lacs to Rs 60 lacs are provided for every handloom cluster under the Integrated Handloom Development Scheme.
Social Worker, N Itomba said that Keirao constituency lacks a leader who will guide the people of the constituency.
Under different schemes, people of the state can avail many facilities.
Even Minister Allauddin who is a representative of the constituency is not doing anything to provide such facilities to the people of his constituency.
A leader must work hard to provide the facilities given by the government to the needy people.
He also said that he will use his own money to register the weavers of the constituency under the scheme.
