Two individuals including a suspected informer of Assam Rifles have been found dead at two different places in Ukhrul district.
A police source said that a man was found dead near Hungpung Cemetery this morning.
It was suspected that the man was beaten to death.
According to a driving licence found beside the corpse, the deceased might be one Ch Aken Singh (36) s/o Surendro of Khurai Thangjam Leikai who was reportedly used by 17 Assam Rifles as 'source man' .
Notably, 17 AR stationed at Ukhrul district headquarters filed a missing report at Ukhrul police station about the missing of one of their men.
As police were searching for the man, an individual was found dead at Lower Hungpung Cemetery.
The corpse has been brought to RIMS mortuary.
A column of 17 AR came to pull up a man from his house at Hungpung on the night of December 15 .
Even as the wanted man was found away from home, the AR troops assaulted and thrashed some women and children of the house.
One masked man who came with the AR troops reportedly pulled the hair and gagged the wife of the wanted man.
As the woman shouted for help, a large number of people rushed to the house and they surrounded the AR troops.
Then the people led away the masked man, suspected to be an informer of Assam Rifles.
As for the AR troops involved in assaulting women and children, the CO of 17 AR not only tendered an apology but also agreed to pay Rs one lakh as customary fine.
Finally, the local villagers and the Assam Rifles arrived at an understanding.
However, the masked man taken away by the people of Hungpung could not be traced.
Talking about the understanding, the Tangkhul Naga Long president said that the understanding was made with the Hungpung Women Society and that they were a not a party to the settlement.
On the other hand, another man was found dead at Lamlai Chingpheilok under Litan police station yesterday.
The deceased appeared to be mentally unsound and 50 years of age.
Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.
