NE Tourism Fest kickstarts on Huishu river bank

The second edition of the North East Tourism Festival kicked off on the bank of Huishu river in Chingai block of Ukhrul district.
The 3-day extravaganza festival was inaugurated by former president of TNL Hopingson A Shimray.
The festival aims to promote tourism, handloom and handicrafts.
The programme began with a special prayer by Rev Samuel Zingkhai, Pastor of Huishu Baptist Church.
Hopingson, while speaking at the opening day, urged the people of the district to extend cooperation for development of tourism in the region and dwelt on the tourism prospect of Ukhrul describing it as a place with potential to become one of the tourist hot spots of the State.
The festival promotes the feeling of oneness among the people and it aims to enhance rural tourism, Hopingson said.

Ningchui Shatsang, convener of NE tourism festival explained the main objective of organising the programme at the extreme border village and said, "Tourism can bring development in different ways, improve infrastructure and provide employment opportunity to the youth" .
Describing the beauty of the place, Ningchui Shatsang said both the State and Central Government need to pay special attention to this area to attract more tourists.
Folk dances and rock shows from local artists Yuileichan Mahongnao, Winso Chamroy, Asherie Zonun, Sochipem Kasomhung marked the opening night of the North East Tourism Festival.
The second day will witness cultural folk dance by Chingai village, Sihai Khullen Mayar Ngala Long and Huishu village while day-3 is reserved for exploration of the exotic Huishu hills.
According to the organizers, more visitors are expected to come and promote the place and the festival as well.
Over 100 tents have been set up for visitors on the river bank.
NEHHDC officers, headmen, Pastors and villagers from Huishu, Poi, Kuirei attended the function.
The village is about 65 Kms away from Ukhrul district Headquarters and is located between international border pillar No 124 & 125 .
The 3-day NE Tourism festival is being organised by Ukhrul Hills Development Foundation (UHDF) through North Eastern Handicraft and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) Ltd and is funded by NEC, Shillong, Ministry of DoNER, Govt of India.
