Imphal, April 27 2023:
Pointing out that prolonged sealing of the Indo-Myanmar border on account of COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted those involved in trading goods, Shiv Sena Manipur president M Tombi has urged for opening the border as soon as possible.
Addressing a press meet at the party's office in Babupara here on Thursday, M Tombi said that many people from the state go to Moreh and carry out cross border trade as a source of livelihood.
Many of them have to spend at least one night in Moreh and engage in the trade.
However, the protracted sealing of the border has impacted many, as can be seen from the rise in the number of vendors around Imphal City.
The government should take serious note of this situation and unseal the border as soon as possible, he urged.
Appreciating Governor Anusuiya Uikey's inspection of Indo-Myanmar border and her statements of completing the border fencing, Tombi urged for the works to be carried out under a long-term plan, particularly relocation of the border pillars from pillar no.78 to 89, which were found intentionally erected deep inside Manipur's territory.
Shiv Sena had previously visited the border pillars and erected the flag of Salai Taret.
On the other hand, the state government had set up places for Myanmarese citizens fleeing the political instability in Myanmar, into Manipur.
However, Shiv Sena will not stand by and watch them scattering and settling elsewhere other than the designated areas.
As such, it would be best if the government were to also look into this matter, he remarked.
During the press meet, new members of the party including Bazar Community chairman Maanmit Arora and several others were felicitated.
