ICU Project aiding quality healthcare service: Dr Lokeshwar

The two-day long Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS), Training of Trainers (ToT) programme organised by eGovernment Foundation in collaboration with NHM Manipur concluded at Hotel Imolesh, Old Lambulane, here, on Thursday.
Speaking during the closing function, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) medical superintendent Dr Kh Lokeshwar conceded inability of the medical fraternity to extend ICU service in far flung areas due to lack of basic facilities.
However, along with the launch of the 10-Bedded ICU Project in the state, specialists in different medical fields have been able to provide ICU facilities through tele ICU to patients in far flung areas with the help of eGovernment Foundation.
He further informed that all the ICUs opened in district hospitals under the Project are being monitored through Hub and the patients observed closely by the specialist doctors.
As such, patients in far flung areas with very little resources and poor transportation facilities are benefited from the quality services provided.
"PMJYA and CMHT facilities are also made available at the district hospitals where ICU facilities are provided and patients having health cards can take the benefit get free treatment".
According to 10-Bedded ICU Project policy lead and program director Bisoya Loitongbam, the Project has enabled in bringing about a considerable change in the overall health care scenario in the state.
Bisoya further stated that since the economy of the state is not at its best, it has not been able to provide necessary manpower as per the guidelines of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS).
If at all the 10 Bedded ICU Project is to be made financially effective, the hospitals need to maintain everything in a proper manner, he said.
Stating that the role of RKS is immense in every hospital as they play an important role in developing the hospital in every aspect, Bisoya lamented that the level of awareness and understanding of the role of RKS is very low.
The function was also attended by officials of NHM, health directorate and district hospitals.
