Imphal, April 27 2023:
While recalling the history of the Meitei-Pangal, Meipak Ningthou Committee has urged the government for inclusion of the history of Meitei-Pangal in the school syllabus to ensure communal harmony in the state.
In a release, Committee co-convenor Arshad Baseimayum recalled that Meitei-Pangal are the descendants of Muslims who came to Manipur during the reign of King Khagemba and made to stay by marrying Manipuri women.
They have been living harmoniously with different communities in the region along with adopting the surnames given by the king.
They had also helped the king in the governance, war and in adoption of agricultural practices.
However, the tradition and culture of Meitei Pangal are getting diluted and the close relationship between Meitei Pangal and Meitei shared in the past seems to be oblivious to many, he observed.
Stressing the need for inclusion of history of Meitei Pangal in school syllabus so that students could learn about it, he urged the education department and the state government to include history of Meitei Pangal so as to ensure communal harmony in the region.
