Imphal, April 27 2023:
While pointing out that in-spite of differences among the indigenes the same could be sorted out across the table, World Meetei Council (WMC) has called for letting the government of Manipur discharge its duty without fear or favour.
In a release, WMC termed as heartening and historic that after the High Court decreed on the question of genuineness and legitimacy of the claim of the Meetei people to include in the list of ST, organisations representing indigenous Naga people joined hands with the immigrant Kuki-Chin people.
WMC truly believes that the reason for the indigenous people joining hands with the immigrant communities against the fellow indigenous people is that the indigenous Naga fear that Meetei would grab their lands, their job quota, their reservations in institutions, maybe more, it noted.
"WMC's take on the immigrant communities on the matter is different.
We do not equate indigenous Naga people with the immigrant communities," it said.
WMC continued that what is important is the intimidating nature of the formidable alliance putting pressure on the state government to undo what the HC had done.
Nothing can be sorted out by putting pressure on an issue where the question of survival of the Meetei people is involved, it further stated.
