Churachandpur, April 27 2023:
MLAs LM Khaute (Churachandpur), Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon), Chinlunthang (Singhat), Letzamang Haokip (Henglep) and Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh) on Thursday visited the Food Corporation of India (FCI) warehouse located at Tualnuam and enquired about the position of rice in stock.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the visit, MLA LM Khaute informed that came to oversee the mode of transportation of rice from the said warehouse to the Food & Civil Supply (FCS) godown, Churachandpur and ensure that there is no unwanted act of siphoning of rice.
He said that it is their duty to see that the public receive their dues.
On the other hand, FCI godown depot in-charge Salminlun Ngaihte told the media that FCI is not under the state and their duty is to receive and distribute food stock as per directives of the centre.
Extra care has been taken in maintaining proper records of what is received and supplied so as to ensure that no discrepancies occur, he said.
Salminlun further informed that once an allotted quantity of rice is issued and after it crosses the gate of the FCI warehouse, it is the responsibility of the state authority to make sure it reaches the destination and if anything goes wrong beyond the ambit of the FCI godown, he cannot be held responsible.
In this age of computerisation, everything is done with great transparency and there is no room for blunder either intentionally or unintentionally in the FCI godown premises, he stressed.
Meanwhile, Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) GHQ informed that they are monitoring the transportation of rice from the FCI godown, Tualnuam to FCS facility on learning that some people made an attempt to pilfer rice during transhipment between the two godowns.
Sources from the ZSF stated that in past there were instances where PDS rice quota of Churachandpur was pilfered/siphoned off during the course of transporting to the FCS godown which were then taken towards Imphal, but on one occasion the police succeeded in making a seizure at Thingkhangphai on the way.
As such, on Thursday, they monitored movement of 13 rice laden trucks bound for the FCS godown, the students' body informed.
