Imphal, April 27 2023:
With the coming of May Day, which is observed throughout the world on May 1, the armed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has extended revolutionary honour to all the brave working-class people of Manipur (Kangleipak) and the world who sacrificed their lives during the peasants' movement.
According to a statement of SOREPA issued on the occasion, May Day is observed every year to commemorate the movement launched by workers/labourers against the capitalist class at Chicago's Haymarket (USA) on May 1, 1886 .
The main slogans of the movement were reduction of daily working hours and increase wages for labourers to make them have a decent life.
The movement was also against exploitation of labourers by capitalists for their own profits, SOREPA said.
The statement issued by its publicity & organisation secretary MC Yaiphabi further said that the International Socialist Conference held in 1889 decided to observe May 1 every year as International Workers' Day to commemorate the movement launched by workers from May 1, 1886 in Chicago and also to make the global fraternity aware about the importance of workers' movement.
The day is now observed by every member nation of the United Nations as May Day, the outfit said and paid its highest honour to all martyrs who fought for the rights of the working-class people.
According to SOREPA, the movement initiated by radical American people who believed in socialism spread like wildfire throughout the world including Australia, Latin America, New Zealand, Britain, as well as European and other countries.
The movement launched by American labourers against their wealthy owners not only sowed the seed for labourers of the entire world to fight for their legitimate rights but also triggered the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia.
The flame of May Day, 1886 has spread throughout the world now and even countries following liberal democracy are observing the day widely while countries supporting capitalism are observing it as Labour Day every year.
However, there is a big difference in May Day observance by countries advocating egalitarianism like Cuba, China and Vietnam with those supporting liberal capitalism.
May Day observance in countries supporting liberal capitalism continue to be for namesake only and the same is being done in India, which openly violates rights of the working class people, SOREPA said, adding that countries/organisations which do not believe in the tenets of egalitarian society will never understand the inner idea behind May Day observance.
While asserting that the government run by Hindu fascists, which snatch land from farmers, exploit farmers and working-class people and support wealthy people will never understand the real meaning of May Day, SOREPA appealed to farmers and working class people of Kangleipak to observe May Day in its true spirit and not to take part in namesake observance by the government.
While extending May Day greetings to the people, SOREPA also informed that the letter-head used by the outfit earlier will no longer be valid and instead a new letter-head with red Kai and seven stars in the shape of a crescent moon over a large red star with slogans inscribed 'Victory to WESEA revolution' and 'Fight against Indian colonialism' will be in vogue henceforth.
