Medical camp held as epidemic fear grips T Vaichong

Kangpokpi, April 27 2023:
Following report of spread of unknown ailment marked by high fever among the people, especially children, in Twilang area under T Vaichong sub-division in Kangpokpi district, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kangpokpi organised a medical camp at T Vaichong on Thursday.
T Vaichong is located at a distance of around 40 km from Kangpokpi town.
There are more than 75 villages of different communities including Kuki, Naga and Nepali in the subdivision.
According to KSO Twilang block, the Twilang area has been witnessing spread of a disease with associating fever among the people, especially children since April first week.
Concerned over the situation, CSOs of the area informed the SDO concerned, who promptly conveyed the message to the CMO of the district.
The CMO, upon learning about the evolving situation, swung into action and organised the medical camp in collaboration with CSOs of Twilang area.
More than 200 people were examined at the medical camp during which the medical team also collected samples.
An awareness programme on mental health, malaria, Hepatitis B & C, and non-communicable diseases among other health-related topics was also held with CMO Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip, and district epidemiologists Dr Lh-ingkhoneng, Rishikesh Sharma & Holminlun Khongsai as resource persons.
A re-orien tation programme for ASHA workers was also conducted as part of the programme.
RBSK team from the medical department also visited T Vaichong High School and conducted screening to identify students having symptoms and diseases so that timely treatment could be ensured.
Around 31 ASHAs out of 50 attended the medical camp and awareness programme apart from the public and CSOs leaders.
Dr Bernard from CMO Pool and MO of T Vaichong PHC Dr Arif Khan apart from other medical officials examined the patients while KSO Twilang block second batch first-aid trainees and T Vaichong youth volunteered for other non-medical works.
Meanwhile, KSO Twilang block president Enock Kipgen said that PHC T Vaichong is facing hardships due to lack of doctors and demanded the authority concerned to post at least 4/5 doctors at the PHC to cater to the medical needs of the people.
He also said that one doctor posted at PHC T Vaichong was recently transferred without any replacement.
He urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and provide adequate doctors in the larger interest of the deprived people of Twilang area.
