Imphal, June 19 2023:
The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM) has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to withdraw his statement that the violent crisis besieging Manipur is a result of an order passed by the High Court of Manipur.
An Enquiry Commission headed by a retired Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court has been set up to probe the crisis and there is a likelihood of the Union Home Minister's particular statement influencing the enquiry, said a press release issued by STDCM.
Seeking withdrawal of the same statement, the STDCM sent a letter to the Union Home Minister today.
Earlier, during a meeting with representatives of several CSOs at Imphal, the STDCM submitted a memorandum to Amit Shah pointing out that the High Court's ruling has very little to do with the violent crisis.
Meanwhile, Meitei people settled in Lakhipur sub-division of Cachar have extended several relief materials to displaced people currently taking shelter in relief camps.
The relief items were delivered by the Monitoring Committee, Lakhipur.
The monitoring committee's president Khaidem Kanta and member Laishram Sarat came to the office of STDCM on June 17 and donated Rs 50,000 toward the people's movement for granting ST status to Meitei/Meetei.
The STDCM has conveyed gratitude to the Meitei people of Lakhipur for their donation of relief materials and the financial assistance.
