Imphal, June 19 2023:
Muslim and Kabui womenfolk of Keikhu joined hands in protesting the demand for "separate administration" by ten Kuki-Chin MLAs.
Protesting the demand and calling for restoration of peace and harmony in the State, a sit-in was staged today at Keikhu Keithel in their traditional attire from midday to around 3 pm.
Placards reading "One Manipur, One Administration", "Save Manipur", "We want peace", "Long Live Manipur", "Say no to violence" etc were put on display during the sit-in.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, secretary of Women Society Keikhu Kabui Khun Adim Panmei said that it is very unfortunate to see no end to the communal crisis and inability of the State and the Central Government to resolve the issue even after 45 days.
She also said that it is heartbreaking to witness thousands of women and children taking shelter at various relief camps after their houses were torched during the height of the chaos and prayed to all concerned to help restore peace and normalcy in the State.
She also drew the attention of the State Government and the Central Government to implement the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) at the earliest and take up necessary measures to resume academic activities for the children.
Secretary of Keikhu Muslim Meira Paibi, Rukshana Khullakpam in the meantime said no force should try to disturb the integrity of Manipur where many communities have been living in harmony for centuries.
She also strongly opposed the idea of a separate administration within the State.
Rukshana went on to say that leaders of the Central Government should take the prevailing chaotic situation very seriously and do the needful to restore peace and normalcy as soon as possible.
