MLAs submit memorandum, meet Rajnath

In the larger interest of Manipur, a delegation of 9 MLAs submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the present unrest and violence in the State of Manipur which started on May 3 .
The memorandum categorically stated that demand for separate administration by any community should not be considered under any circumstances and integrity of the State should not to be disturbed.
The 9 MLAs sought an appointment with the Prime Minister on June 15 and acknowledgement was received on the same day.
But, as the Prime Minister is leaving on the June 20 for an international tour, the delegation submitted a memorandum today in the larger interest of Manipur.

The delegation who submitted the memorandum are Karam Shyam Singh (Langthabal AC), Dr Th Radheshyam Singh (Heirok AC), Nishikant Singh Sapam (Keishamthong AC), Kh Raghumani (Uripok AC), P Brojen (Wangjing Tentha), T Robindro (Thanga AC) S Rajen (Lamsang AC), S Kebi Devi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa) and Dr Y Radheshyam (Hiyanglam AC) .
Pointing out that more than 100 innocent lives have been lost and valuable properties have been damaged due to the ongoing violence even though many steps have been taken up to curtail the violence, the memorandum requested for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's immediate intervention into the issue.
The memorandum also highlighted the complete breakdown of law and order in the State and loss of faith by the public in the present State Government.
The memorandum sought immediate restoration of the rule of law so that the trust and confidence of the general public is regained.
Through the memorandum, the nine MLAs sought proper and rational deployment of CPMF (Central Para Military Forces) along with the State Police.
Strict enforcement of ground rules of Kuki SoO (Suspension of Operation) groups was another demand raised by the MLAs.
Demand for separate administration by any community should not be considered under any circumstances and integrity of the State should not be disturbed, the MLAs categorically asserted.
They also demanded strong action to check infiltration and involvement of CDF (Chin-Kuki Defence Force) in the present violence as there is strong apprehension by the general public and it may become a threat to the National security.
"A meeting of Kuki MLAs and Meetei/Meitei MLAs may be arranged to enable us find a solution on the issues of the State through interaction and exchange of ideas, as we have not met since May 3 due to the prevailing situation", the memorandum added.
On the other hand, another team of MLAs and Ministers including Rajya Sabha Member Leisemba Sanajaoba called on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his office at 10 am at New Delhi on Monday.
The delegation placed four demands for urgent consideration and necessary action.
The demands/points raised by the delegation included putting an end to the violence besieging the State and bringing a peaceful environment for everyone to live together.
They unequivocally made it clear that the territorial integrity of Manipur must be protected at all cost.
The third demand was initiation of stringent action/measures against militant groups which have been violating SoO ground rules and abrogation of SoO.
The fourth demand was immediate opening of Imphal-Dimapur highway.
The delegation included Rajya Sabha Member Leisemba Sanajaoba, Ministers Th Basantakumar, Govindas Konthoujam, Dr Sapam Ranjan, Heikham Dingo, Speaker Th Satyabrata, MLAs Irengbam Nalini, Sapam Kunjakeswor, Kh Ibomcha, Th Shyamkumar, Thangjam Arunkumar, RK Imo, S Kebi, Kh Joykisan, Ashab Uddin, Md Nasir, Kongkham Robindro, Dr Usham Deben, Lourembam Rameshwor, Khuraijam Loken, Mayanglambam Rameshwar, Thongam Shanti and Sheikh Noorol Hasan.
In the evening, they held a meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and placed the same demands as placed before the Union Defence Minister.
