DESAM backs decision to reopen schools

The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) said that this year's 'Disturbance Free Education Demand Day' will be observed without formal function in view of prevailing unrest situation in the state.
The Coordinating Com mittee of AMCTA, AMRP-SWA, AMSGO, AIMS, CASA, CESM, AMTEI and others observe July 5 every year as 'Disturbance Free Education Demand Day' with DESAM taking the lead role.
While welcoming govern ment's decision to reopen schools for students from class 1 to VIII, DESAM also appealed people to extend support to the initiative to resume conduct of normal class in-spite of existing
challenges' by giving constructive suggestions.
In addition to 13-point suggestions/demands raised by six students' bodies on June 19, DESAM proposed eight additional suggestions/demands including shifting of central paramilitary forces currently stationed at educational institutions to other suitable locations to facilitate smooth conduct of normal classes.
Among the suggestions also include enactment of a comprehensive education policy and more home based education system amidst the violence.
