Thoubal, July 04 2023:
Thoubal Apunba Lup (TAL) has said that it takes Chief Minister N Biren Singh's alleged statement wherein he cited the burning of PM Modi's effigies in Thoubal, Kakching and other areas and people's lack of faith in his Government as the reasons for his decision to resign, very seriously.
AK Jibankumar, secretary general, TAL made the statement during a press conference held at TAL office today.
Speaking further, AK Jibankumar said that the people of Thoubal and TAL have received Chief Minister N Biren Singh's statements in an interview with NDTV, which lacked any form of accountability, very gravely.
He failed to take responsibility as the leader of the State and blamed the protests at Thoubal, Kakching etc as reasons for his decision to resign from the Chief Minister's post.
This is very unfortunate, he added.
Further, AK Jibankumar claimed that the Chief Minister's act of pointing out Thoubal and Kakching protestors is a ploy to divide the people.
Stating that the burning of effigies of political leaders did not start from the initial stage of the conflict, he maintained that this form of protest started past the 45th day of conflict as both the Central and State Government still failed to rein in the violence, maintain law and order and the death toll continued to mount so did the number of houses lost to arson.
Instead of heeding the democratic input of the people, the Chief Minister allegedly tried to politicize the protests at Kakching and Thoubal, he claimed.
AK Jibankumar went on to say that if the Chief Minister had decided to show his boldness and face the Kuki militants instead of attempting to tender his resignation, the public might have appreciated him more.
However, the attempt to resign in the midst of war is the act of a 'deserter', he said.
Lastly, AK Jibankumar expressed hope that the Chief Minister will heed the demands of the people and flush out Kuki militants and restore normalcy and peaceful co-existence among the indigenous communities of Manipur.
