Paddy fields, housing complex scanned; AR shields farmers

In continuation of the steps taken up by health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh to start agricultural activities in the foothills of Konthoujam assembly constituency with the arrival of monsoon, he revisited foothills in his constituency and inspected cultivable sites of the area on Monday.
To ensure smooth commencement of the paddy plantation works, Army and Assam Rifles facilitated repair of water supply for irrigation and provided a secure environment for paddy cultivation in the fringes of the Imphal Valley, according to PRO IGAR (S) .
During his visit, minister Dr Ranjan met and interacted with the farmers and discussed the feasibilities for carrying out agricultural practices.
He aiso reviewed the security measures in areas where cultivation activities are to be taken up.
During his visit, he assured the farmers that all possible steps will be taken up to solve the problems faced by the farmers.
Re-sectioning works of the irrigation canals is also underway, the minister added.
Minister Ranjan also advised the security personnel including Assam Rifles, Gorkha Regiment and state forces to take care of the villagers and protect them.
The visited sites include Kangmong Meis-nam, Langoljam Loukon, Heigrujam Lou-kon, Keithelmanbi Moidangpok Loukon, etc.
Meanwhile, a team of legislators led by minister S Ranjan inspected site of the temporary housing complex/shelter home for displaced families affected by the ongoing crisis, which is being set up at Imphal East nearby Sajiwa Jail, Khabeisoi on Tuesday.
The team, which also included MLAs RK Imo, K Robindro, Kh Loken Singh and S Kunjakeswor (Keba) Singh, instructed officials concerned to complete the construction at the soonest possible.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines, Dr Ranjan affirmed that the construction will be ready within a month, while informing that similar housing complex is being constructed in Thoubal and Bishnupur districts as well.
He added that the construction for Imphal West district will also start soon, with the site accommodating a total of 200 displaced families.
The civil work will be completed within a week depending on the report of the engineers and officials.
Prefabricated construction materials are on the way and will arrive here within a week, following which a new structure will be seen within in a month, he conveyed.
MLA RK Imo also informed that the MLAs will be monitoring the construction of the temporary shelter homes which will house the displaced people until they can return to their original homes.
Later, the team visited that pregnant women-only relief camp opened at Khu-man Lampak Youth Hostel and extended a financial aid of Rs 50,000 for welfare of the 95 women staying in the camp.
