Keithel committee urges Guv to prepone special session

Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace submitted a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey urging for convening an assembly session within a week's time.
The women members of the committee holding placards and banners marched towards the Governor's bungalow to submit the memorandum.
However; they were stopped by security personnel in front of the Governor's gate after which some members were allowed to submit the memorandum.
Speaking to reporters after submit ting the memorandum, Committee co-convenor Dhaneshwari informed that during the meeting the Governor assured to consider the demand.
She also rang up the assembly secretary who responded that the special session will be conducted by next Friday.
The other demands in the memorandum included opening of NH-2, re-settlement of displaced people in their respective homes, compensation to those killed in the ethnic clashes and restoration of peace in in the state.
Meanwhile, a Governor's secretariat release informed that the women representatives urged the Governor to enforce cease fire by armed Kuki militants, lift National Highways blockade, resettlement of those displaced people who have been taking shelter in different relief camps of both hills and valley districts, compensation of Rs 35 lakh for deceased, Rs 15 lakh tor seriously injured person and Rs 5 lakh for minor injury.
The Governor reiterated her appeal made earlier to all sections of the society, especially to womenfolk not to disturb the security personnel who have been discharging their responsibilities to contain the situation and restore peace and tranquillity in the state.
The representatives urged the Governor to stop the heinous crime carried out by the Kuki militants against the Meiteis who are living in fringe and peripheral foothill areas of the state.
They requested her to restore peace and tranquillity in the state through an amicable dialogue so that all the displaced people who have been taking shelter in different relief camps of both hills and valley districts can re-settle at their respective places.
