Imphal, July 28 2023:
Along with ceasing commercial activities of both Thangal and Paona bazar, a sit-in demonstration was organised at Khwairam band Keithel by All Bazar Community and Traders in coordination with Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) demanding restoration of peace and harmony in the state.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the sit-in, All Bazar Community president Manmeet Singh regretted that though the crisis in Manipur has crossed 85 days no action has been taken up from any side to put the situation under control and restore peace and normalcy.
He further contended that the state and central governments are not taking any effective measures to contain the violence which has claimed hundreds of lives and rendered thousands homeless.
Though the union government rushed in large number of central forces to the state, they are not performing their duties up to the people's expectation, the president said, and asked the state and central governments to do the needful to restore normalcy in Manipur without further delay.
Chipping in COCOMI media coordinator Somorendro Thokchom said that it will be organising a mass public rally in Imphal on Saturday with an aim to restore peace in the state, oppose demand for separate administration and the attempt to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur.
He further appealed to all communities to take part in the mass public rally and save Manipur from the clutches of Kuki narco-terrorists.
The demonstration witnessed a significant turnout of non-Manipuri residents and traders belonging to various communities, including Sikh and Jain, all joining hands to raise their voice for peace.
