Relief camp committee clears air on fund use

Apunba Tengbang Lup, Bishnupur secretary -M Bilkee Singh has clarified to all concerned that it has been working for welfare of the public by setting up and running relief camp for displaced persons at Old Mini Secretariat Complex, near Loukoipat under the aegis of district administration and works minister & local MLA Govindas Konthoujam since June 3 .
While informing that there are 321 inmates at the relief camp during a media briefing at the said camp on Friday, M Bilkee regretted that some people in greater Bishnupur area are inciting the public against the Lup.
Stating that all the funds provided by the district administration and the local MLA are received and managed by the Lup's treasurer, secretary Bilkee said that he has no involvement in any monetary matter of the Lup while record of all the expenditure incurred in running the relief camp is being maintained by the treasurer.
Bilkee also maintained that the Lup has representatives of local clubs and organisations of 12 wards of Bishnupur and has no connection with any political activity, while adding the office bearers of the organisation were appointed after detail discussion by local clubs, meira paibi groups and CSOs.
Mentioning that the camp has been run by funding from district administration Bishnupur and the donation collected by the Lup's central committee, he also conveyed that the daily expenditure for 321 inmates is around Rs 12,000 per day on top of which the committee member^ also use money from their own pockets to buy baby food and medicines.
Bilkee further informed that Lup has been able to facilitate free admissions for students staying in the camp from class KG to undergraduate level in various schools and colleges in the district as well as Imphal.
