AR foils timber smuggling, provides relief items

Imphal, July 28 2023:
Under the aegis of IGAR (South), troopers of Shangshak Battalion foiled cross border smuggling of contraband in Ukhrul district on Friday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), during routine checking of vehicles at PVCP Shangshak, the troopers spotted suspicious movement of two trucks with three individuals around 9 am load-ed with some suspicious items.
On thorough search, timber planks were found hidden under the firewood compartment which were being smuggled to Imphal via Shangshak for sale in black market, the PRO informed.
Informing that a total of 638 cubic feet of timber valued at Rs 1.59 crore were recovered, the PRO added that the seized items along with the three arrestees have been handed over to Forest Beat Office, Finch Corner for further investigation.
On the other hand, Assam Rifles distributed 26 bags of rice to the villagers of Kwatha in a significant effort to provide essential aid during these challenging times.
The timely distribution of rations was made possible through the concerted efforts of the district administration and local authorities, the PRO added.
