Delegation of Khwairamband Ima Keithel call on Governor

A delegation of Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Co-ordinating Committee For Peace today called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey and apprised her of the current crisis in the State before submitting a memorandum of demands.
The delegation placed some grievances before the Governor such as ceaseless firing from armed Kuki militants and disturbances along the National Highways, said PRO Raj Bhavan in a statement.
While urging the Governor to rein in Kuki militants and ensure smooth passage along the National Highways, they also urged for adoption of expeditious resettlement policy for people displaced in both hill and the valley districts and proposed for compensation of Rs 35 lakh, 15 lakh and 5 lakh respectively for deceased, seriously injured and non-seriously injured persons at the occasion, it said.
Governor heard their proposals patiently and reiterated her appeal to not disturb the security personnel who are discharging their responsibilities to contain the situation and restore peace and tranquility in the State, it said.
The delegation further urged the Governor to stop the heinous crime carried out by the Kuki militants against Meiteis who are living in fringe and peripheral foothill areas of the State.
They also requested the Governor to restore peace and tranquility in the State through an amicable dialogue so that all the displaced people can re-settle at their respective places, it said.
They went on to urge the Governor to convene a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss the burning issue and the Governor informed them that she will certainly pass on the same to the State Government, it said.
Thereafter, around 40-45 members of the committee submitted a memorandum to the Governor highlighting their demands.
The Governor also assured them that she will certainly look into the matter, it continued.
