Village volunteers injured in gun-battle

Imphal, July 28 2023:
In the continuing attacks by Kuki militants in Terakhongshangbi area under Bishnupur district, two volunteers guarding the village suffered bullet injuries.
According to sources, well-armed Kuki militants attacked Terakhongshangbi from early Friday morning using bombs.
Two locals guarding the village, which is close to Churachandpur district, were injured in the attack and both have been brought to Imphal for treatment.
Security forces including central forces deployed in the village along With village volunteers retaliated leading to exchange of fire till late afternoon, the source informed adding that thereis possibility of some casualties on the Kuki side.
Kuki militants also fired several rounds - including bombs at Wangoo Naodak-hong under Kumbi PS of Bishnupur district on Thursday around 10 pm.
According to a report, following the May 3 conflict, Kuki militants have been continuously attacking the peripheral areas with the aim of taking over the Meitei villages.
One such attack occurred for the first time in Wangoo Na-odakhong Meichakpi Ching area around 10pm Thursday, during which the Kuki militants shelled bombs and fired several rounds from the direction of Dumpi village, Churachandpur district, the militants had taken up post at Chingpi Chingdol, which is part of Meichakpi hill range.
The well-armed militants attempted to take over Wangoo Sabal and Haotak villages, which are close to Wangoo Naodakhong, However, the state government had previously deployed state forces and central forces in the area, anticipating such an attack.
The deployed security forces retaliated at the militants and the gunhght continued till midnight.
The security forces managed to overwhelm the militants, who then swiftly fled from the area.
While there were no reports of any injuries during the gunfight, additional security measures have been taken to prevent any future attacks.
