Imphal, November 08 2023:
Condemning the continuous attacks on Palestinian civilians and calling for immediate ceasefire and restoration of peace in Palestine, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) have stated that the indigenous people of Manipur are like the Palestinians who have been constantly attacked by external forces even to the extent of displacement from their own homeland.
A release jointly issued by MSF and PSO observed that Manipur being located in a fragile geo-political periphery of South Asia and South East Asia has been experiencing similar onslaught on civilian life.
The peace loving citizens of Manipur not only understand but also feel the violence meted out on the people of Palestine.
The two organisations denounced any form of violence against children and civilians as it tantamount to violation of the international humanitarian protocols.
The clandestine violation of such protocols has been committed by militant armed groups which are under SoO agreement with the Union Government of India since 2008.These groups have been openly involved in looting, kidnapping, killings (truckers), arson, and illegal taxation and highway blockades for decades.
There is a corollary between the Palestinian plight and the sufferings of people in Manipur, it condemned.
In the wake of such an unwarranted situation of violence, MSF and PSO consider that the international community and the United Nations, in particular, have abounden responsibility to protect the civilians and restore peace, the release maintained.
The student organisations extended solidarity and condolence to the civilians who have been killed on both sides due to the conflict.
It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a lop-sided position by only condemning attack on Israel but not sufficiently committing to secure the fundamental rights of the long suffering Palestinians, the joint release denounced.
