Firefight continues in Koutruk, search ops conducted

Foothill areas of Koutruk remain tense as Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists continue armed attack in the village with use of sophisticated weapons and bombs on Wednesday.
State police and CRPF deployed in the area also returned the fire.
Following the attack, security forced used drones to locate positions of the attackers and found several bunkers and movement of armed militants in the nearby hills.
Foothill areas of Koutruk has been witnessing intermittent gunfights since Tuesday morning.
The fresh attack on Wednesday began around 4 am and intermittent gunfight continued till 12.30 am.
The attack resumed at 4 pm and CRPF and state police used bombs and conventional firearms to counter.
Though there is no report of any injury, intermittent gunfights continued till late evening.
On the other hand, joint security forces continued search operations in different parts of the state.
In a search around Imphal city area in Ngari Galli, Dharamsala and Bora Galli in the afternoon, police detained four people as they did have identification documents and they were taken to City PS for further verification.
A joint team of Imphal West district police, 2nd IRB, 3rd IRB, 7th IRB and 184 battalion CRPF's F company personnel also carried out a search operation in Koutruk Ching Leikai area but the whole village was found deserted as residents have fled to safer location since Tuesday.
Imphal East district police along with personnel of 1/3 GR and 29 battalion BSF also conducted search operation in Maphou Kuki village, Maphou tunnel and nearby hill areas in the afternoon.
There was no report of any arrest made.
In the morning, Bishnupur district police along with personnel of 5/9 GR and A/140 battalion CRPF conducted operation in Tingkai Khunnou foothills and Irengbam Awang Leikai under Nambol police station.
No arrest was made in the operation.
In Churachandpur district, joint team of district police, BSF and ITBP conducted op eration in Kaprang village in the morning.
In the afternoon, joint team of Churachandpur district police, B/33 BSF and 36 Assam Rifles conducted operation in M Phaimol village and there is no report of any arrest or seizure made.
In Thoubal district, the district police conducted operation in Kairembikhok area in the afternoon.
Joint team of Kakching district police, 136 BSF and 37 Assam Rifles conducted operation in L Thingkangphai village in Kakching district in the afternoon.
There was no arrest in both operations.
