Internet service will resume in four districts: Minister Khasim

Transport minister Khasim Vashum has said that the ban on internet throughout the state due to the ongoing violence since May 3 will be lifted from four hill districts unaffected by the violence.
Announcing this during an event held in Ukhrul, minister Khasim Vashum said that internet service would be resumed in four hill districts of Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong and Chandel and the government has taken up steps for reopening mobile towers in headquarters of the four districts on trial basis.
Notably, all the four districts where internet service would be resumed are pre dominantly inhabited by Na-gas and all these four districts were covered when the ban on internet was imposed though unaffected by the violence.
Minister Khasim Vashum's disclosure came after the High Court of Manipur gave directive to the Government of Manipur to lift the ban internet from districts unaffected by the violence.
However, when will mobile internet service in the four hill districts resume is yet to be ascertained.
The high court had also directed the state government to upload orders on ban/lifting of internet service on official website and fixed hearing of the case on November 9 .
Mention may be made here that All Naga Students' Association (ANSAM), among other organisations, has been demanding lifting of the ban on internet from areas unaffected by the violence.
