Demanding release of their pending 17-months pay before Diwali, fifty Lecturers stormed the Office Chamber of Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar at Babupara and staged a protest around 12.30 pm today.
Speaking to the media in this connection, Malemnganbi, a Lecturer of Lamlai Higher Secondary School said that 602 higher secondary lecturers were recruited on contractual basis in 2018.They were eventually regularized on April 1 this year.
Breaking up their unreleased 17-months salary, she said that it consists of 10 months of contractual pay and 7 months of regular pay.
She continued that the 602 higher secondary Lecturers have continued to perform their duty even during curfew without making an issue of their unpaid salary.
However, due to the issue remaining unresolved for a prolonged period, the lecturers have come together to appeal to the Education Minister to release their salary before Diwali.
The lecturers at the protest also expressed anguish over their 17-months unpaid salary in the face of mounting price rise and other household expenses which have put them in a difficult economic situation.
