Intervention programme on 'Substance Abuse and Alcoholism' held

A targeted intervention programme on 'Substance Abuse and Alcoholism' was held today at Jiribam Higher Secondary School as a part of 'Swasth Man Swasth Tan' campaign.
The programme was organised by the District Mental Health Programme, District Health Society, Jiribam on the theme 'Stress management and substance abuse prevention' .
Dr Th Bharat Singh, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Jiribam District and Miss Jeida Begum, Principal Jiribam Higher Secondary School graced the occasion as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Th Bharat Singh deliberated on measures to prevent substance abuse.

He spoke in detail on the various stages of how one falls prey to harmful habits of using intoxicants and its impact on mental health.
With regard to stress management among the students, the CMO appealed to the students to follow the various stress management tactics such as practicing Yoga, meditation, to stay away from harmful substances like drugs, alcohol etc, having proper sleep, to be in good company, positive thoughts and so on.

The Principal of the school expressed gratitude to District Health Society Jiribam for conducting such useful awareness programmes for the welfare of the students.
