Winter vegetable seeds distributed under MIDH

The launch programme of 'Winter Vegetable Seeds Distribution' under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) was held today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
The programme was organised by the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation.
Attending as the chief guest, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam distributed winter vegetable seeds to selected beneficiaries of four districts- Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur.
Speaking on the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam highlighted the need to continue taking up economic activities which are essential for the progress and development of the State, though the State is currently passing through a tough phase.
Otherwise, the State would face detrimental effects to its economy, he added.

The Works Minister spoke on the potential of Manipur's soil, which gives a different taste to every product grown on it.
However, that potential has not been harnessed optimally, he said and stressed on the need to give priority to agro-based and horticulture products to develop the economy.
He added that economic development would automatically lessen crime and violence in the State.
Emphasizing on soil degradation caused by poppy plantation, he spoke on the initiatives of the State Government under the guidance of Chief Minister N Biren Singh in providing alternative plantation crops for sustainable livelihood to poppy cultivators.
Stating that vegetable seeds provided by the Government are of good quality, he urged the beneficiaries to cultivate the distributed seeds properly.
It may be mentioned that the winter vegetable seeds items which were distributed today included onion, garden pea, cabbage, broccoli, knol-khol (kohlrabi/German turnip), cauliflower and tomato.
Many notable personalities attended the launching programme including Sapam Kunjakeswor, Chairman, Manipur Electronics Development Corporation; Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Chairman, Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation; Lourembam Rameshwor, Chairman, Planning and Development Authority; Dr Usham Deben, Chairman, Manipur Pollution Control Board; Khuraijam Loken, MLA of Wangoi AC; T Pamei, Commissioner, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, senior officials of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department as well beneficiaries.
