Imphal, November 08 2023:
Raising the demand for furnishing a white paper on the relief & rehabilitation measures for the people displaced by the present crisis in the state, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has maintained that the white paper should be based on the actual field report.
A team of MPCC led jointly by its vice president Hareshwar Goswami and Youth Congress Committee president Ningthoujam Popilal along with members of Yaiskul Block Congress Committee visited the relief camp at Wangkhei High School and handed over essential items to the inmates of the relief camp on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Hareshwar informed that the relief materials have been handed over as continuation of the party's endeavour to help the camp inmates under the initiative of MPCC president K Meghachandra, CLP leader O Ibobi and other leaders of the party.
Demanding the state government to produce a white paper on the relief and rehabilitation measures for the displaced people, Hareshwar said that the white paper should be based on the actual held report and it should also include the compensation amount given to the displaced people including students taking shelter in relief camps, relief and rehabilitation, health and medical care, security arrangement and voting rights of the conflict-affected people.
He further stated that the crisis in the state has crossed 6 months now and has left over 200 people death, over 60,000 people displaced in addition to a number of inci-dents/cases which have left people shattered including the brutal murder of Hijam Luwangthoi Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit and the recent missing case of two teenagers namely Abhinash Maibam and Ningthoujam Anthony.
Stating that the present unrest situation had never been experienced in the 2000 years of Manipur history, Hareshwar wryly stated that thefe are three laws in Manipur, one in the hills and the other two in the valley.
The manner in which CM Biren played the 'resignation' drama in front of the Governor's Bungalow where no restrictions were imposed despite the area being a silent zone and the excessive use of force on leaders and members of Congress party during their democratic agitation clearly indicated that there is to laws in Imphal valley, Goshwami asserted.
