Normal classes from Class IX-XII resume, low attendance in Govt schools

Subsequent to the government order issued to resume normal class from Standard IX to XII, students began attending schools after a long hiatus from Thursday.
Previously, the government notified via an order to start normal classes up to Class VIII from July 15.The attendance of students was quite low in government schools as normal class (Class IX to XII) resumed only from Thursday, while private schools showed higher attendance.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, TG Higher Secondary School principal Dr Vinita Elangbam recalled that schools had been suspended for some time due to the ethnic clashes since May 3.The conflict has destroyed the normal lives of the people and also drastically impacts the students' community.
Delighted to the order of the state government for resuming normal class from Class IX to XII, she lauded the state government and Department of Education (S) for such decision.
Whether it is because of the failure to reach the information about resuming normal classes to the students or due to the apprehension of the parents/guardians to send their wards to schools during such times, the attendance of the students is only 30 per cent.
However, the school will contact parents and guardians to send their wards.
Extra class will be conducted to compensate the loss classes, she informed.
Urging not to create any disturbance during school hours, she expressed apprehension for the safety of the students when any conflicts occurred or curfew imposed.
So, she appealed to the government to take up necessary measures regarding the safety of students and further stressed that education is vital for the students which are the future pillars of the nation.
Accent Academy Sagolband principal Naorem Romibala lauded the government and education minister for the initiative to resume class amidst the conflict.
She said that they are delighted to witness students coming to school happily after a long hiatus.
Around 75 per cent of the students attended the school, she informed.
A teacher of Catholic School Canchipur informed that the school witnessed 85 per cent of students' attendance on Thursday.
