As observed across the globe, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) yesterday celebrated the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples under the theme, "Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self Determination" at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
It was attended by International Meetei Forum secretary Th Roliven, SSUM president S Yaima, renowned journalist Paojel Chaoba and civil rights activist N Thanil as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, S Yaima shared that the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is observed every year on August 9 to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world's indigenous population.
He also stressed on the need to make the whole aware about the atrocities and violence committed by Kuki militants against the indigenous people in Manipur.
Highlighting that many indigenous people have lost their lives since the conflict began on May 3 last, S Yaima urged all the Meeteis to come together against those threatening the territorial integrity of the State.
