Chandel, August 10 2023:
The Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) has urged the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Chandel to resume classes without in a conducive manner any further delay while excluding the students of both feuding communities.
A statement issued by Philip Langhu, general secretary, NSUC has pointed out that Nagas are a peace loving people and will not allow JNV Chandel to become embroiled in the ongoing conflict.
Hence, segregation of the two communities, even of the lower classes, is one task which needs urgent attention, it said.
As the Kukis settled under the jurisdiction of NSUC are from Chandel and Tengnoupal while the Meitei brethren are from the valley districts, the Union has also appealed to the JNV Chandel Principal to send the Meitei students of the institution to the JNVs of valley districts on temporary attachment basis till normalcy returns in the State.
It enumerated that presently no educational institutions in Manipur are accommodating children of both the warring communities so as to 'prevent occurrence of ethnic clash' .
NSUC reasoned that if students of the two communities are permitted to stay together in JNV Chandel it will only be inviting a big problem and in case any communal strife takes place in the campus, the school authority and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti will be solely held responsible and appropriate legal actions taken up against them.
Thus, NSUC has urged the Principal of JNV Chandel to act with great caution in times of uncertainty with inhumane activities taking place every now and then in the State and employ the adage of "Precaution is better than cure" as the only weapon as an educationist.
