Imphal/Senapati, August 10 2023:
The State police has registered an FIR against the author of the book Anglo-Kuki War, retired Colonel (Dr) Vijay Chenji and two Kuki academicians Jangkhomang Guite and Thongkholal Haokip who edited the book under anti-social activity.
While Jangkhomang Guite is an Assistant Professor at Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Thongkholal Haokip is an Assistant Professor at Centre for the Study of Law and Governance of the same varsity.
The FIR was registered based on a complaint lodged by the Federation of Haomee president Sapamcha Jadumani, vice president Dr K Heera Kabui and general secretary Y Vicisy Shimray to the Officer-in-Charge of Imphal police station on August 7 .
An FIR under offence/section, "Concealing design to commit offence, waging war against the Government of India, concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war, promoting enmity between different groups, using as true such declaration knowing it to be false with criminal conspiracy" was filed against the two Kuki academicians on August 7 .
The Federation of Haomee claimed that an FIR was registered on August 9 against the author of the book too at Imphal police station under FIR No.661(8)2023 punishable under section 120/121/123/153-A/200 of the Indian Penal Code.
SI S Basanta Singh has been given the charge to investigate the case.
The complainants claimed that the author of the book has wrongly depicted the Kuki Rebellion (1917-1919) as Anglo-Kuki War without any factual basis and evidence.
They also claimed that there was no such war as Anglo Kuki War in the history of Manipur and the United Kingdom.
The complainants went on to allege that the armed rebellion of Kukis was mainly to oppose recruitment of Kuki people to the Labour Corps and the same was clearly mentioned in the administrative report of Manipur State for the year 1917-1918 .
The Kuki rebellion was nothing but massacre of Nagas, Koms of the hills and Meeteis and Mahomedans of the valley, the FoH alleged.
"In the light of the above established facts from perusal of the books and official records, it is clear that the author has concocted many lies intentionally to usurp historical facts and distort history for personal gain and in favour of a particular community which has resulted in grave offences against India and United Kingdom," the complainants charged.
The three officials of Federation of Haomee prayed that necessary action be taken up against the author and editors of the book and also put a ban on the distribution of the book.
