Imphal, August 10 2023:
Following a com plaint report lodged by Federation of Haomee, Imphal West police station has registered an FIR against the author and two editors of the book "The Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919" for wrongfully claiming that the armed Kuki-Rebellion (1917-1919) as Anglo-Kuki War and trying to distort history of Manipur.
Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi assistant professor Jangkhomang Guite and Centre for the study of Law and Governance, JNU, New Delhi assistant professor Thongkholal are the editors of the book while retired colonel Dr Vijay Chenji is the author.
They have been charged under section 120/121/123/153-A/200/120-8 of IPC.
The FIR in Imphal West police station for legal recourse in the interest of the state against the two academicians was filed by Y Vicisy Shimray of New Canaan Village, Ukhrul; Sapamcha Jadumani of Pishumthong Oinam Leikai, Imphal West and Dr K Heera Kabui of Namdulong, Kabo Leikai, Imphal East.
The FIR accused that the book "The Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919" has, without any factual basis and evidence, claimed the armed Kuki-Rebellion (1917-1919) as Anglo-Kuki War, thus making it a concocted fictional war that is being falsely disseminated widely creating an environment against public tranquillity and peace in the state.
This has been done largely on the biased view of one community against the facts and history.
It further said that there was no Anglo-Kuki War in the history of Manipur and in the history of United Kingdom.
It was only an armed rebellion called Kuki-Rebellion for two reasons - First, strong opposition on the part of the majority Kuki Tribes to recruitment for Labour Corps which is clearly stated in the Administration Report of the Manipur State for the year 1917-1918.It was not a Kuki-Rebellion but massacre of Nagas, Koms of the hills and Meeteis & Mahomedans of the valley.
Secondly, one Chingakham Sanachaoba who claims himself as the brother of Maharaja Churachand instigated and used the Kuki sepoys to dethrone the Maharaja which was suppressed.
The rebel leaders in their application to the Commissioner, Surma valley and Hill districts stated that they wrongfully fought with the government on account of deceitful conduct of Chingakham Sanachaoba Singh and requested the mercy of the government from punishment and also pledging their allegiance and that no such rebellion shall be repeated.
The FIR letter further said that author has concocted many lies intentionally to usurp historical facts and distort history for personal gain and in favour of a particular community which has resulted in grave offences against India and United Kingdom.
