Imphal, August 10 2023:
Womenfolk staged sit-protest demonstrations in all areas from Malom to Keinou demanding removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur and deportation of "Kuki narco-terrorists" .
The sit-ins were organised under the aegis of Apunba Meitei Ema Lup (AMELUP) .
During the protest demonstrations, womenfolk held placards that read "Unite CSOs", "AR stop supporting narco-terrorists", "Reject separate administration", "Deport Kuki narco-terrorists" etc.
At a public meeting held at Keinou Panthoibi Lampak as part of the protest, AMELUP convenor K Inakhunbi stressed that the tension between the warring communities has not subsided even after three months for lack of appropriate action against armed Kuki militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO) .
While they started the violent conflict on May 3, several groups of the Kuki community have spread false narratives to garner attention and support from outside, she said.
They have and are trying to paint the conflict as Christian Vs Hindu Meiteis.
They are trying to show it as a result of atrocities committed by majority Meitei against minority tribals.
They are playing victim while the Meiteis are the true victims of unprovoked attacks carried out by Kuki militants, she said.
Since May 3 till today, Kuki militants have continuously attacked Meitei civilians and they have even killed sleeping men, said Inakhunbi.
The womenfolk demanded implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and effective campaign against poppy cultivation.
