Kpi, July 29 2023:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has urged Union home minister Amit Shah to intervene into state government's move to deploy additional state forces including police commandos in the border town of Moreh.
State government's attempt to deploy additional state forces in Moreh is uncalled for and unjustified, stated KIM general secretary Khaikhohauh Gangte in an urgent message.
KIM's message came after large number of Kuki-Zo women obstructed a convoy of ten vehicles transporting personnel of India Reserve Battalion, Manipur Rifles and police commando personnel to Moreh at Tengnoupal.
According to Khaikhohauh, government is dispatching a large convoy of police commandos and other state forces to Moreh town and this enraged Ku-ki-Zo community who are demanding withdrawal of state forces from the border town.
Subsequently, Kuki-Zo women blocked the highway oh Friday to stop movement of additional state forces to Moreh.
After government's attempt to transport state forces to Moreh town, an intense stand-off ensued between Kuki-Zo women and security forces at Tengnoupal.
It may be recalled that Kuki-Zo community has been urging authority concerned to withdraw police commandos from Moreh town with the same demand placed by people of Moreh to the home minister when he visited the border town in May.
