Imphal, July 29 2023:
The land that makes up Manipur belongs to the State and no Kukiland can be granted, said the Association of Premier State College Seniors, Manipur (APSCS) .
While welcoming the MPs visiting Manipur to assess the ground situation amid the tension between Meiteis and the Kukis, APSCS, in a statement, stressed that the demand for a separate administration for Kukis or creation of a Kukiland is not tenable.
Opposing such an arrangement, if any, APSCS said the genesis of the present problem lies with the series of enrolment of Kuki immigrants/foreigners in the electoral rolls of the State with an eye to capture political power.
They (Kukis) are now creating havoc to achieve their demand and the Centre has been caught in the quagmire it created, alleged APSCS.
It said today's Manipur is a legacy handed down to its people.
The people of this erstwhile kingdom (Manipur) have been coexisting as members of a family shouldering the responsibility of protecting the territory of Manipur themselves.
The land belongs to the State.
No Kukiland can be granted.
Parliament must deal with this demand (separate administration) firmly before it is too late, said APSCS, calling on the visiting MPs.
