State badminton: Leonie, Malemnganba win U-19 title

Leonie Tayenjam and H Malemnganba Singh have respectively clinched the U-19 girls & boys' singles titles of the 67th State Open Badminton Championships 2023 .
In the finals held at MBA Indoor Stadium, DMU Campus on Saturday, Leonie Tayenjam (IWDBA) defeated her dis-trict-mate Chanulembi Sapam 21-16, 21-8 to wrest the title as top-seed H Malemnganba Singh (BDBA) overcame third seeded Jomi Singam to win the summit round at 22-20,23-21 .
In other finals of the day, top seeded pair of H Rohenkumar Singh & Rk Alen Singh (BDBA) edged past Borish Salam & Brikson Singh (IWDBA/BDBA) 21-19, 21-16 to win the U-19 boys' doubles title as top seed M Suraj Singh (IWDBA) rallied to defeat S Pinibash Meitei (TDBA) with 21-17,15 21, 21-18 score-line o clinch the U-13 boys title.
Leonie Tayenjam had an outstanding run in the championship participated by 274 shuttlers from 11 districts, as she won four titles including U-19, U-17 & U-15 singles and U-19 girls' doubles title with Ch Bellarix Devi.
The closing ceremony of the 40th Inter District & 67th State Open Badminton Championships 2023 was attended by former deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh as chief guest and agriculture minister & Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) president Thongam Biswajit Singh as president, while YAS secretary N Khedabarta Singh, director T Phulen Meitei, JN-MDA director P Bilash Singh, MBA ex-general secretary & retired international referee Hodam Gyaneswor Singh and MBA ex-general secretary & Naorem Enterprises proprietor N Shyamkumar Singh were present as guests of honour.
